Measures soil moisture as an aide for making dependable watering decisions, especially for larger planting tubs as well as individual plants in the ground, for instance, in a winter garden or greenhouse.
It is impossible to judge the amount of moisture present inside the soil ball in a pot or in general around the roots just with the eye or by feeling the surface with a finger. (The surface can be dry even when there still is enough moisture within.) Watering often takes place based on guesswork or when the plants are already wilting. This causes stress and has an adverse effect on plant growth.
The so-called Tensiometer measures or indicates the suction force with which the roots absorb water. This force (measured as subpressure in a tube and displayed in mbar) provides a measure for moisture levels: high value = dry, low value = moist. The measuring range is from 10-750 mbar, typical values range between 100 – 300 mbar. The sensor is able to measure moisture levels in all types of soil and peat as well as in not overly coarse clay granulate substrates.

As the soil dries, its natural suction power triggers the opening of the Tropf Blumat allowing the water to flow. When the soil is sufficiently moist, the Tropf Blumat automatically stops. The system functions fully automatically. Every plant, every container or group of plants requires at least 1 Tropf-Blumat adjusted to the individual needs of the plant. Larger containers or surfaces require longer or more than one sensor. All Tropf-Blumats are connected using one supply tube, this allows for flexibility in the layout and is changeable at any time.

5.700 KDThe Tropf-Blumat Maxi enables the moisture levels in deeper layers, close to the roots, to be monitored and regulated. Watering occurs more seldom but therefore more intensely – the surface of the tub stays drier.
It is typically used for larger planting tubs and solitary plants in troughs on patios and roof gardens, and also for individual solitary garden shrubs.
The Tropf-Blumat Maxi acts as a regulator and dripper, just like the standard Tropf-Blumat. However, it’s application makes sense only above a container height of 30 cm (tub size 30 cm or for a planting depth of 30 cm), the insertion depth is 15-18 cm.
