Cucumber

Want to try something new in your garden? This is it! Armenian cucumber with handsome, light green, thin skin is burpless, nearly seedless, and more tolerant of heat than most cucumbers. Sometimes called serpent cucumber or yard long, it is technically a variety of melon! A long production period means harvesting right into fall.

The English cucumber is longer (up to 18″) and thinner than traditional cucumbers, with very small, soft seeds. ‘Telegraph Improved’ was developed in the 1800s for growing in greenhouses, but is now a favorite of home gardeners for the long, thin-skinned, burpless fruits that add a cool, mild flavor and a snappy crunch to salads and sandwiches. Cucumbers develop best when grown on a trellis and get regular moisture while fruits are forming.

Introduced in 1968 by Cornell University, ‘Marketmore’ is a beautiful, dark green cucumber that’s ready to pick when 6″–8″ long. Fruits keep their size and shape even under poor weather conditions unlike other varieties that may curl and become misshapen. The 4’–6′ long vines continue to produce with regular picking. Disease resistant.
